The 27th session of the Hite Bio Ladder Lecture Series was held as scheduled on June 30, 2021. The guest speaker for this session was Dr. Li Guanlin, a postdoctoral researcher and project manager at the Technology Center. Using clear and accessible language, he outlined the broader context of innovative drug development, highlighted popular targets and cutting-edge technologies, and reviewed the R&D pipelines of leading biotech companies. Moreover, through a wealth of real-world examples and precise data, he painted a promising picture of the future of innovative drug discovery.

Dr. Li Guanlin first pointed out that although the COVID‑19 pandemic has constrained global economic growth, it has also further accelerated pharmaceutical R&D worldwide: the scale of drug development continues to expand, the number of projects is steadily rising, and pharmaceutical companies are increasingly establishing a global presence across multiple locations. The number of innovative pharmaceutical firms has grown by 5.9% compared with 2020. In terms of therapeutic areas, research on oncology, chronic diseases, and neurological disorders remains among the mainstream, while antiviral therapeutics have seen a year‑on‑year doubling in investment—reflecting the heightened public attention to antiviral and anti‑infective agents amid the pandemic.

In the era of innovative drug development, China is firmly at the forefront. Dr. Li Guanlin analyzes the favorable state of China’s innovative drug R&D from three perspectives: first, a supportive policy environment; second, a robust market landscape; and third, a distinct talent advantage. The development of innovative medicines not only requires a conducive social climate but also substantial technological backing. As a groundbreaking new therapeutic modality, cell therapy is poised to become one of the most promising avenues of research, following in the footsteps of conventional cancer treatments—surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.

As a high-tech biopharmaceutical company, Haiter Bio has consistently aimed to become China’s leading innovator in the biologics sector. Guided by its corporate mission of “revering life and embracing fearless innovation,” Haiter Bio has never slowed its pace of R&D in this era of groundbreaking drug development. Looking ahead, with the pending approval and launch of CPT (Sha’ait®) and the continued progress of multiple pipeline candidates, Haiter Bio is poised to steadily advance toward its goal of becoming a world-class innovative pharmaceutical enterprise.
